About Transderm Scop
Transderm Scop: An anticholineric drug for motion sickness. Transderm Scop is basically an anticholinergic drug. Anticholinergics have numerous effects in our body, which includes decrease in the fluid secretion, dilation of pupils and slowing of digestion in intestine and stomach. It is used generally for the treatment of motion sickness.
This medicine is used to ease vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness and nausea that are normally seen in motion sickness. It is also used for different other purposes.
How to Take Drug?
You should use Transderm Scop exactly as advised by your doctor. If you cannot follow or understand any of the instructions, then ask your nurse, doctor or pharmacist to explain the proper intake procedure to you.
The medication usually comes in a patch form and is applied to the hairless, dry and clean region behind the ear. One patch must be applied at least four hours before journey.
Each patch lasts for only three days. So, after three days it must be replaced with a new one. Hands should be properly washed after every handling of the patch. Besides, you should also try to avoid contact of this medicine with your eye as it can cause blurred vision, dilated pupils and itchy eyes for some time.
Drug Precautions
Before using Transderm scop, inform your doctor if you have or had liver disease, glaucoma, kidney disease, bladder problems, difficulty urinating and similar others. If you are suffering from any of these conditions, then you are either not fully fit for this medicine or need a lower dose.
Transderm scop belongs to FDA pregnancy category C medicine, so its effect on unborn baby is still unknown. So, it is advisable to the expecting mothers not to take this medicine before consulting your doctor. This medicine is also not recommended to be used by the children.
Drug Interactions
Transderm Scop increases the effect of drowsiness, if you are taking it with pain relievers, antihistamines, muscle relaxants, anxiety medicines and sedatives. Cautious use of alcohol and anti depressant is also advised, as it can also add to dizziness. So, you must inform your doctor about each and every medicine that you are taking.
Side Effects
You should stop using the medication and seek medical attention, if you have swelling in lips and tongue, difficulty in breathing or hives. There are other not so serious and grave side effects including dry nose, mouth or throat, drowsiness, decreased appetite, vomiting, nausea, blurred vision or fast and irregular heart beat.
Missed Dose
If you have missed a dose of this medicine, then you should try to compensate it without clashing with the scheduled dose. However, you should never try to take double dose of Transderm Scop in order to balance the missed dose.
Overdose
Symptoms of this medication overdose include agitation, convulsions or seizures, excitability, drowsiness, hallucinations, dizziness and death. In these cases, urgent medical attention is required.
Storage
Transderm scop should be kept at room temperature and away from heat and moisture. The temperature of the room should not increase over 25 degrees.
