About Soma

Soma is a medication which relaxes the muscles. It functions by efficiently blocking the transmission of pain sensations from the nerves to the brain. Pain associated with injury is consequently diminished.

Uses or Indications

Soma is primarily used in relieving pain and stiffness as a consequence of muscle spasms, and discomfort from sprains and muscle strains; if used in coordination with a physical therapy program and sufficient rest, it may be a treatment for injury and other forms of painful musculoskeletal conditions.

How to take Soma

Soma is in tablet form, which must be orally ingested while observing the instructions of a doctor. The normal daily dosage for adults is three 350mg tablets, taken with eight-hour intervals. The tablet may be taken with water or milk, if necessary, in order to prevent stomach upset. Soma is not intended for intake by children under twelve years old.

Side Effects

Discontinue intake and seek medical help upon experiencing the following adverse effects: an allergic reaction; paralysis; loss of vision; a rapid heartbeat; convulsions; agitation and confusion; light-headedness; and weakness accompanied by poor body coordination. The more common adverse effects of intake include headaches, insomnia, and blurry vision; irritability and depression; an upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, and hiccups; and tremors, drowsiness, and dizziness.

Drug Precautions

Patients who have health conditions like seizure disorders (epilepsy), and liver and kidney illness should notify their doctor beforehand; a dosage adjustment may be necessary, or tests may be conducted to ensure safe intake of Soma. The drug also has habit-forming properties, so people with a history of drug dependence are strongly discouraged from intake. After maintained use, withdrawal symptoms may be experience if intake is abruptly stopped, so a gradual decline in dosage is necessary. Conceiving and breastfeeding women are advised to consult with their doctor first before taking Soma. The medication may have harmful effects to the unborn or nursing child.

Drug Interaction

Medications for cold, pain, and seizures, as well as narcotics, sleeping pills, and muscle relaxants may add to the drowsiness which is caused by Soma. Patients who are taking these medicines should notify their physician before considering on taking Soma. In order to avoid instances of interaction between the drug and other medication, patients are encouraged to inform their doctor about all of the prescription or over-the-counter medications which they are currently taking, including, herbal products, vitamin and mineral supplements, and medications prescribed by other physicians.

Missed Dose

Take a missed dose of the medication if the last intake is within the scheduled hour. Otherwise skip the intake and proceed with the normal intake schedule. Avoid taking double doses in order to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose

In case of a suspected overdose, seek immediate medical help. Possible symptoms of overdose include a low blood pressure, decreased breathing, problems with vision, rapid heartbeat, muscle stiffness, confusion, hallucination, light-headedness, convulsions, and unconsciousness.

Storage

Store Soma in room temperatures of 15 to 30°C, within tightly-sealed containers, and away from excessive heat and moisture.
