About Propecia
Propecia is a medication which is used for treatment of the indications of a benign prostatic hyperplasia, in men with a condition of an enlarged prostate; it is, however, more often identified as a treatment for pattern hair loss in men.
Uses or Indications
Propecia is used as treatment for pattern hair loss in men, particularly those which affect the top and the middle front of the head. There is no existing evidence which proves that the medication is similarly effective at treating the receding hairline at the temple area. Propecia is intended for men only; women or children are prohibited from use.
How to take Propecia
Propecia is available in tablet form, and is ingested orally. Intake should be under the prescription of a physician, in order to avoid health consequences as a result of an overdose. As a treatment for pattern hair loss, a regular daily dosage of 1mg has been proven to a cause a positive hair growth, as long as the user takes it on a daily basis, for duration of at least three months. If results are not obtained after a year of use, the medication is possibly impotent for the particular patient taking it.
Side Effects
Discontinue intake and seek medical help in the presence of symptoms of an allergic reaction. Maintain intake and consult with a physician if the following are experienced: a decreased libido; erectile dysfunction; a decreased seminal amount in ejaculation; and an enlargement or tenderness of the breast.
Drug Precautions
Potential users of Propecia are advised to inform their doctor before intake if they have the following health conditions: liver disease; a disorder of the bladder muscles; stricture of the urethra; inability to urinate; and prostate cancer. The medication is also strongly prohibited from intake by women and children. The active component of the drug, finasteride, may permeate the skin; in this sense, even the handling of the capsules by the said individuals is strongly discouraged. Pregnant women are especially prohibited from contact with the drug, since it can cause eventual birth defects on the unborn child.
Drug Interaction
There always exists a possibility that a drug can interact or interfere with the potency of Propecia. It is therefore necessary that any individual who is considering on using it to treat pattern hair loss conditions inform his physician of any current treatment involving either prescription or over-the-counter medications; these include vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal products, and medications prescribed by other physicians.
Missed Dose
In case a scheduled intake of Propecia is missed, it must be taken as soon as it is remembered, as long as the intake provides at least a 24-hour margin from the last dose. Otherwise, the missed dose should be skipped, and the next dose taken according to the regular intake schedule.
Overdose
At present, the health indications of an overdose of Propecia are unknown. If an overdose is suspected, seek medical help immediately.

Store the drug within room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
