About Penlac

Penlac is a medication which is applied on the skin. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to prevent fungus and infections of the skin from growing or developing on the body.

Uses or Indications

Penlac is an effective treatment for skin infections; these include ringworm, athlete`s foot, yeast infection, and jock itch. If it is in shampoo form, it is used for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, a condition of skin inflammation of the scalp. In the form of nail lacquer, it is used as treatment for fungal infections on the fingernails and toenails.

How to Use Penlac

Penlac is available as 8% concentrate topical solution nail lacquer. First, remove loose nail and nail material on the surface, with the use of a nail file or nail clippers. Apply an even layer of lacquer over the entire affected nail, and in the underside of it if possible, with the use of the use of the provided applicator brush. Application of the Penlac nail lacquer should be done once a day, preferably before going to bed. Allow the application to dry for a half hour before putting on stockings or socks, and eight hours before a bath. Reapply a fresh layer over the preceding coat daily, and clean the nails once a week with alcohol.

Possible Side Effects

Sever side effects from the use of Penlac are unlikely to occur. Discontinue use of the medication and consult with a physician if the following adverse effects are experienced: irritation and discoloration of the skin around the affected area, severe itching, dryness, redness, a burning sensation, and other unusual changes on the affected nails after use of the drug.

Drug Precautions

Users should not use cosmetic nail products, nail polish, or artificial nails on the affected nails which are being treated with Penlac nail lacquer antifungal medication. Avoid getting any residue on the eyes, mouth and nose. The medication is flammable; use it away from any heat or flame source. Users who have experienced an allergic reaction to Penlac in the past are strongly discouraged from further use of the product. Women who are either conceiving or breastfeeding are advised to consult with their doctor before considering the use of the product.

Drug Interaction

Refrain from using any other topical medications or product in conjunction with Penlac on the affected area, unless otherwise prescribed by a physician. Other skin products can have an effect on the absorption properties or efficiency of Penal nail lacquer. Refrain from using any other nail polish or cosmetic products for the nails, on the areas treated with the medication.

Missed Dose

Since the nail lacquer is applied on a daily basis, a missed dose is unlikely to happen; otherwise, the health consequences are minimal. Just apply a fresh coat upon remembering.

Overdose

An excessive application resulting in an overdose of Penlac is not likely to occur; however, if the user has any concerns, or if the product has been ingested, seek emergency medical help immediately and contact a poison management center or a hospital emergency room.

Storage

Keep the container tightly sealed, within room temperature, and away from direct sunlight.
