About Motrin
Motrin is an over-the-counter medication which belongs to the class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID).
Uses or Indications
Motrin is applied to treat fever and all kinds of pains, including pain provoked by arthritis, flu, cold, menstrual cramps, toothache, headache and migraine.
How to Use Motrin
The medication is available in regular capsules, liquid, ordinary tablets, liquid-filled capsules and chewable tablets. Motrin should be used in small doses, within the shortest time possible. Usually Motrin comes with a guide containing detailed instructions about its usage.
It is recommended to take Motrin not on an empty stomach, but with food or milk. Liquid Motrin should be shaken properly before using. Measure the amount of the liquid with the help of syringe or spoon. Make sure you have chewed a Motrin tablet completely before swallowing it and drink some water afterwards.
Possible Side Effects
Taking Motrin may lead to such Side Effects as facial and hand muscle swelling, itching, tingling sensations, tightness in the chest, swollen throat and mouth, as well as to skin problems, like red skin rash, peeling and blistering.
Among other Side Effects doctors mention sudden headache, chest pain, irregular urination and stool, blood in urine, fever, skin discoloration, speech problems, difficulty seeing colors, dizziness, etc.
Motrin may trigger allergic reactions like itching, hand and facial muscle swelling, swollen mouth or throat, tingling sensations, tightness in your chest, trouble with breath, blistering, peeling, and red skin rash.
Other possible Side Effects include severe stomach pain, sudden headache, difficulty seeing colors, speech and ambulatory problems, fever, chest pain, coughing and vomiting blood, mild nausea, heartburn, dizziness, irregular stool and urination, blood in urine, swelling of hands, and skin discoloration.

Drug Precautions
- Motrin isn`t recommended to patients who suffer from asthma or are allergic to aspirin, ibuprofen and other NSAID medicines.
- Don`t use this drug if you have advanced kidney disease, a bleeding disorder or stomach ulcer. In case you suffer from heart or circulation problems, bleeding problem, congestive heart failure (CHF), lupus or other connective tissue disease or high blood pressure, check with your doctor first.
- Motrin may increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
- Don`t take Motrin right before and right after pursuing CABG - a coronary artery bypass graft.
- Motrin may result in intestinal or stomach bleeding. If you had ulcer in the past, are over 60 years old, drink alcohol or smoke regularly, you run a higher risk.
- Patients aren`t recommended to drink alcohol while they are using Motrin.
- See your doctor in case you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Motrin shouldn`t be taken during the later part of pregnancy.
Drug Interaction
Ask your doctor if prescription strength Motrin is allowable when you are using medicines like steroid or any blood thinner agent.
Missed Dose
Never double the dosage of Motrin to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
There are no known overdose symptoms. But just like any medication, excess intake can be dangerous; if you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention right away.
Storage
Store Motrin at room temperature.
