About Flonase
Flonase (generic name fluticasone) is a nasal spray available upon prescription. It is proven to reduce inflammatory reactions of the nasal passageway that appeared due to allergens and other irritants.
Uses or Indications
Flonase is used to relieve such symptoms of upper respiratory tract problems as runny, itchy nose, nose congestion and sneezing. Flonase Spray is to be applied topically to the mucous membrane of the nose.
How to Take Flonase
Flonase only shows optimum results when used regularly. Make sure that you are using it once a day every day or as advised by your doctor. The initial dosage for adults is normally 2 sprays (each equal to 50 mcg) into each nostril once a day (making 200 mcg per day total). After the first few days, patients can reduce dosage to 100 mcg a day (1 spray per nostril). It is important to bear in mind that regular use guarantees better results.
Side Effects
It is rarely that Flonase causes serious side effects. In case this happens, stop using the medicine and turn to doctor immediately. Possible side effects include allergic reactions such as difficulties with breathing, throat/tongue/face swelling, or hives.
Milder side effects may be more likely to appear and include: stinging/burning sensations in the nose, congested or runny nose, sneezing, nasal bleeding, increased pressure in the eyes, headache, nausea, coughs or loss of taste or smell.
Drug Precautions
- It is important that your doctor is alerted about any kind of bacterial, viral, or fungal infection that you experience. Flonase intake can affect your immune system.
- It is unknown whether Flonase Nasal Spray can harm an infant during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant soon, consult your doctor before using Flonase.
- The influence of Flonase Nasal Spray on breast milk is also not clear. In case you are breastfeeding see your doctor first before taking Flonase.
- Flonase Nasal Spray is not recommended for children below 4 years old.
Missed Dose
If the missed dose is already near your next scheduled time to take Flonase, skip it (the missed one) and get back to your normal dosing schedule. Don`t take a double dose of Flonase to catch up.
Overdose
There is no known overdose symptom as an overdose is unlikely to happen. But if you believe an overdose has occurred, contact your doctor for medical help immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperatures or between 4° and 30°C. Keep the drug in the place where children cannot reach it.
