Drug Uses
Elimite is a over-the-counter topical drug which comes in cream and is applied to the treatment of scabies. The medication contains 5% Permethrin representing a scabicidal agent that is effective for infestation treatment.
Uses or Indications
Elimite is prescribed for the scabies treatment.
How to Take Elimite
Elimite should be used according to the doctor`s prescription. The drug can be used externally only. Keep Elimite away of the mouth, nose and eyes. If the medication got in these areas, rinse them with water immediately. Elimite is undesirable to come in contact with wounds and open cuts.
For skin: Rub your skin from the head to the feet using Elimite and leave the cream on for 8 to 12 hours. Then wash Elimite off with soap and water. Apply not more than 30 grams of the medication at once.
For hair: First apply shampoo to your hair, rinse and dry it properly. After that use Elimite. Try to cover all areas of the scalp with the medication. The dosage and the length of time the drug should be left on are indicated in the instructions. Then the hair is rinsed once again, dried using a clean towel and combed.
Side Effects
In case you detected one of the following side effects after applying Elimite, you should contact your doctor at once: itching or burning sensations on scalp, tingling, wheezing, numbness, skin rashes and breathing problems.
Drug Precautions
- The medication shouldn`t be applied to the mouth, eyes and nose. In case Elimite occasionally comes in contact with these areas, you should wash it of as soon as possible. Besides, until the infection is cured, you should avoid physical relations.
- If you scalp gets inflamed and red, you should seek medical assistance immediately.
- In case you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should see your doctor before applying Elimite.
- Infants who are less than 2 months of age aren`t recommended to use this drug.
- If your eyelashes or eyebrows were affected with Elimite you should seek immediate medical help.
Drug Interactions
Ask your pharmacist or doctor before using any other drug, including herbal products, vitamins and over-the-counter medicines.
Missed Dose
As the medication can be applied only once, there is no risk of missed dose.
Overdose
Overuse of Elimite may cause increased irritation and erythema. If it occurred, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Storage
Store at room temperatures away from heat and light and out of the reach of children.
